RSS Frequently Asked Questions

How do I subscribe to an RSS feed?

To subscribe to a feed, you need to use an RSS aggregator. See the list of recommended aggregators. Once you have an aggregator, you can click on an RSS subscription link in vPortal, customize a feed, copy the feed URL, and paste it into the appropriate field in your aggregator. See the instructions specific to your aggregator for subscribing to a feed. Once you are subscribed, updates to the feed will be visible within your aggregator.

Do I need to have an iPod to listen to podcasts?

No. Podcasts are published as MP3's. They may be played on your computer or on any mobile device that supports MP3 playback.

Do I need to subscribe to the podcast in order to listen to it?

No. Podcast MP3 files may be played or downloaded directly from the vPortal interface, much like other VoD content. Simply search or browse to the individual podcast item and click on the 'Play' link to listen to the broadcast.

Why does my previously working RSS feed fail now in my aggregator or iTunes?

Due to an added security feature in the 4.6 version of vPortal, you will need to resubscribe by copying the feed link into your RSS aggregator or iTunes.

Why won't Portal web pages load properly in my RSS reader's browser?

To view vPortal content properly in RSS readers that have their own embedded browsers, please set the preferences for the feed so that content launches in an external browser. If you are using FeedBurner, for example, follow these steps:

Select the vPortal Channel.
Go to the Browse menu.
Select ' Show in External Browser'.
