Notifications

As a user of vPortal you may find that you are receiving e-mails notifying you that you haven’t rated a presentation or that you have comments or questions on your blog or answers to questions that you’ve asked of others.  As a Community or System Administrator, there are additional notifications such as for permission requests and requests to create communities.  You can control what notifications come to you and how often in your Preferences.

Rating a presentation youve just launched

If you launch a presentation and rating presentations is enforced on your portal, you will receive a notification to follow up and rate the presentation (show sample e-mail here).  You can rate a presentation by clicking on one of the stars (show image here) in the player window or while browsing a presentation.

Comments and questions for author(s) of presentations

If you are the author of a presentation and a user posts a comment (or question) after screening the content, you will receive a notification (show sample e-mail here) that a comment (or question) has been added to the presentation.  This will allow the author to quickly engage with users and keep interest going on the presentation.

Comments and questions on your blog

If you are the author of a personal blog and a user posts a comment (or question) to one of your blog entries, you will receive a notification (show sample e-mail here) that a comment (or question) has been added to the blog entry.  This will allow the author to quickly engage with users and keep interest going on the blog.

Answers from authors to questions you've asked

If you have asked a question in a personal blog or presentation, you will receive a notification (show sample e-mail here) that an answer has been posted to your question.

New community requests (plus accept/reject)

As a user of the portal, you may find that you’d like to create a community of users with similar interests.  You may wish to have a community blog, allow users to upload resources to the community, add  news items and share Custom Powerpoint presentations (CPPTs).  After filling out the community request form (show image here), the System Administrator will receive a notification (show sample e-mail here) to approve or reject the request.  As the requester, you will receive a notification (show sample e-mail here) indicating the decision made by the SysAdmin.

Permissions requests (community and portal)

Upon joining the portal or a community, you may find that you’d like to interact more with other users.  You can request additional permissions (show sample images for portal and community here).  The System Administrator (or Community Administrator for community permissions) will receive a notification (show sample e-mail here) that a permission request has been made.  When the request has been handled by the Admin, you will receive a notification indicating approval or rejection.

Setting notifications preferences

Checkboxes

There are several checkboxes that can be selected (show image here) so that you can receive notifications: questions and comments on any authored presentations you may have given, questions and comments on your personal blog and for answers to questions you asked of others.

Send notifications hourly/daily/weekly/monthly

In addition, you can elect to have the notifications sent to you on an hourly, daily, weekly or monthly basis (show image here).  All the summary notifications during that timeframe will be sent in one e-mail.

Alternate e-mail address

You may also choose to have notifications sent to an e-mail address other than the one you used to login with (show image here).

"Either/or" not "and"

If you choose to use the alternate e-mail address, notifications will be sent only to the alternate address.
